Licensed Lineage & Backcountry Authority

Trekking Under Two Decades of Ground Management

Trekking the isolated mountain passes of the Kii Peninsula requires flawless logistics, real-time risk management, and deep historical authority. Kumano Kodo Tours is a premier division of JRT Trading Pty. Ltd. Established in 2005, JRT Trading brings more than two decades of elite outdoor operations in Japan to these sacred trails, operating under official Japanese Travel Operator License 2-768 and Hotel Business Registration 678-31.

Our 8-Day Kohechi Grand Traverse is originally designed and engineered by Mattias Takehiro Hosogai, our Head Itinerary Architect, who has pioneered and led pilgrimages on this exact route since 2017. Guided exclusively by professional, bilingual mountain safety experts holding active Wilderness First Responder (WFR) medical certifications, we manage 100% of the logistical complexity—from securing highly restricted heritage ryokan rooms to coordinating private support vehicles and daily luggage transfers—allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the spiritual landscape.

Preparation & Equipment

Important Trip Realities & Gear Guidelines

Authentic trail conditions, mountain lodging nuances, and equipment rules to ensure guest safety and seamless operations.

Double occupancy in traditional ryokans is almost always accommodated in twin Japanese-style rooms with premium futon bedding on tatami mats, not western double beds. Due to the sacred and highly restricted space within Koyasan’s active monasteries (shukubo), the single supplement does NOT guarantee a private room on Day 1. Solo travelers may be paired with a same-gender guest on this night if temple rooms are completely booked. Bathing is conducted in communal hot-spring baths (ofuro), and shared toilets are common in historic mountain wooden structures. Non-smoking rooms are in highly limited supply in traditional ryokans and cannot be 100% guaranteed.
